Continuing Education and Workforce Development Programs

Mitchell Community College’s Continuing Education and Workforce Development programs are designed for adult learners at every stage of life—whether you are entering the workforce, advancing in your career, changing directions, or pursuing personal growth.

We believe learning does not have an age limit or a single path. Our programs provide flexible, accessible opportunities to gain new skills, earn industry-recognized credentials, and continue growing—regardless of where you are starting.

Each area is designed to meet workforce demands while supporting individual goals, from employment and advancement to lifelong learning.


Allied Health

Prepares students for careers in healthcare and medical support through certification and credential-based training.

Course offerings include Nurse Aide (CNA), Phlebotomy, EKG Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Pharmacy Technician, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Office Administrative Staff Training (MOAST), and professional development courses in Dental Assisting.

Programs support initial certification, recertification, and continuing education, preparing students for industry-recognized credentials and employment in clinical and administrative healthcare settings.

Personal Enrichment

Offers opportunities for lifelong learning, creativity, and personal growth.

Course offerings include arts, crafts, music, photography, fitness, and other special interest topics, along with community-based workshops and events.

Programs are designed to engage, inspire, and connect individuals in a relaxed, non-credit learning environment. Participants must be 16 years of age or older, with limited youth programming offered seasonally.

Occupational Extension

Skilled Trades & Industrial Training

Equips students with hands-on skills for high-demand technical careers through short-term training, certification, and workforce-aligned instruction. Course offerings include entry-level Welding, HVAC-R, Electrical, Machining, Manufacturing, and Mechanical Systems training. Programs emphasize practical application, safety, and job readiness, supporting entry-level employment, upskilling, and career advancement in industrial and trade fields.

 

Transportation, Licensing & Certification

Prepares students for careers requiring state licensure and industry-specific credentials. Course offerings include Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), vehicle safety and emissions inspection, notary public, and other transportation and regulatory certification programs. Training is designed to meet state requirements and employer expectations, supporting direct entry into licensed professions.

Public Safety

Provides training for emergency services and public service professions through entry-level certification and ongoing professional training. Course offerings include Emergency Medical Services (EMS/EMT), Fire Protection, Telecommunicator, Paramedic, Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET), and select legal studies programming. Programs support both new workforce entry and continuing education for active personnel. Registration fees may be waived for eligible emergency services members based on state guidelines.

Human Resources Development (HRD) / Career Ready Essentials

Provides employability and career readiness training for individuals entering, re-entering, or advancing in the workforce.

Course offerings include computer skills, financial literacy, job search strategies, resume development, interviewing techniques, workplace communication, college preparation, and career exploration.

Career Ready Essentials is Mitchell’s HRD framework focused on building foundational skills employers expect. Many courses are offered at no cost for eligible participants, including those who are unemployed, underemployed, or facing a layoff.
